Warner Archives just tweeted within the last day or two that they will be releasing Pirates of Dark Water (episodes 1-21, no extras) on DVD on August 31st. Preorders start at the end of this week.
This is the real deal! After many years of signing online petitions and e-mailing and namedropping any chance we get, it's finally happening!
TVshowsonDVD.com is also looking into this and will hopefully have more info to post shortly. I'll be posting more details as they come out.
Please spread the word! Let's make sure fans everywhere hear about this!

| "I like that in a woman." |
[23 May 2008|12:56am] |
One of the recent Dinosaur Comics made me laugh because of the inadvertent Dark Water reference.
It was that scene very early in the show where Tula went to Bloth's quarters and gave him the Compass, he offered her Mantus's commander job, and she left, saying suspiciously that she wanted to count her "compliments" first (the gold he'd paid her). He asked if he heard distrust in her voice, then turned to the "camera" and said, "I like that in a woman."
The context is a little different in the comic, but still funny! I love Dinosaur Comics and its randomness.
(Sorry, I'm a geek.)
And this is also just a way to shake the dust off the group and see how many people are still out there! I think I check in every few months, and am pleasantly surprised to see that the number of members keeps going up by a few every time. :) Hope you're all doing well, and for the Americans, hope you have a lovely Memorial Day long weekend.

Hey there--how've you all been?
This is totally a shameless plug, but I'm sort of incurring the "I'm the admin and I can plug my shit if I want to" rule. I wanted to let you know that I finally redesigned/updated http://piratesofdarkwater.net and pushed the site live tonight, after nearly a year of stagnation. I have more updates coming in the next few weeks, if everything goes well. Please check it out, let me know if anything's broken or if you have any constructive criticism, and enjoy!
I'm also always looking for things people want to see on the site. If you have suggestions for new content or sections, please don't hesitate to let me know.
And with that, I'm off to bed because it's 3 AM. Good night. ;P

| Hi! |
[25 Jan 2007|01:33am] |
Just want to say that I join ur community. I'm PoDW fan and I'm a fan of many-many else))) Andorus - I constantly visit ur page - it's AMAZING and I think it's unique! (as for me - I didn't manage to find any other). Some points I'll be glad to check: 1. Is there any fanfiction/fanart of this community. 2. Can I find any series in Internet? (may be on Yuor-tube?) 3. Sorry if my thoughts aren't clear - I'm russian and always make a lot of mistakes in english) Thank u!

| Niddler's voice |
[10 Sep 2006|07:28pm] |
At the risk of sounding entirely noobish
Didnt Niddler have a different voice at some point, to be replaced with the current one? Did they actually redo the entire series with a new voice for him?

| Eps Past 13 |
[14 Aug 2006|11:07pm] |
Well, I have finally finished watching all of the Eps, and I can't help but wonder what happened to the series past #13.
It's great to see more stories involving Ren and crew, but everything from the swearwords to the exotic places seem much more aimed to a younger crowd, more time spent on action rather then on the rich story that so very much endeared me to the series.
Anyone else with opinions?
(BTW, I am aware of the changes that happened between the seasons.... just noting it for myself)
Secondly, I was completely blown out of the water to hear Kate Mulgrew doing the voice acting for Cressa, just completely unexpected.

| Anyone know? |
[07 Aug 2006|10:49pm] |
Finally getting around to downloading the Eps..
Anyone know what the "Big Changes Coming" at http://darkwaterpirate.com/ is? I've been following, and am very curious.

| Actor sightings |
[02 Aug 2006|07:51pm] |
Hector Elizondo, the voice of Ioz, did a guest spot on Avatar: The Last Airbender in the last couple of episodes, which aired several weeks ago. His voice is exactly the same, and my head jerked up as soon as I heard it. :P
Have any of you noticed any of the voice actors performing in anything recently, live-action/animated/otherwise? If you're looking for a list, check out IMDb. I know George Newbern (Ren) has been voicing Superman on Justice League...his voice has changed a lot, though, or he's just altered the timbre of his voice. (I think he's using his natural voice for Superman and maybe altered it for Ren.)

| New (old) fan |
[29 Jul 2006|09:42pm] |
Hi everyone!
I fully admit to being a Lurker of Andross's website for at least a few years now. Imagine my delight after having not glanced at it in quite some time to see all new information, not to mention a link to an LJ community!
I'm a fantasy lover to the core, and a large part of this I blame on PoDW's effect on my early childhood. I remember nearly hopping up and down on the family rocking chair waiting for the next eps to be shown on YTV (Canadian, if anyone was wondering). Unfortunatly, I only managed to watch the first season this way, and my old taped VHS has long since died from continual watching. I know I should have copied it after the first taping, but I kinda forgive myself due to being extremely young at the time.
I always manage to get puzzled looks from people when asked "what was your favorite cartoon?" The Characters were very organic, and actually possessed personality depth (unlike other various cartoons offered to young children), The living aspect of just about everything (From ships to various creepy crawlies) was amazing, and Bloth was perhaps the first truely "Scary" character to be introduced to my very young brain.
So I've been stuck playing the generic "Pirates of Dark Water" for the SNES, always wishing there was some way to talk to ANYONE about the show, or even see some of the missing eps I was never lucky enough to find.
Yes, I've found the Streaming video site, and am attempting to restrain the giddy feeling while watching Dishonor. Do these Eps actually cycle through the entire series? Are the Bittorrent files still able to be obtained? So much information I have missed!
Thanks for enduring the rambling, just very excited to hear I am not the only fan left.

| Article on Dark Water |
[11 May 2006|06:57pm] |
It's been a while--how's everyone doing?
I was just e-mailed this article about David Kirschner, written at the time Dark Water (the original 5-episode miniseries--it became Pirates of Dark Water after the following episodes were produced) was released. I've felt for a long time that there's a lot of symbolism built into this show--it follows tenets of Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey/Monomyth, and the focus on water...water is a classic symbol of purity and purification, so the existence of dark water, water that destroys and pollutes instead of building and healing, is a big one.
( anyway, read on... )

I just wanted to let everyone know that I adopted a dog back in February and named him Ren.
I just wanted to share that with some people who wouldn't ask me, "As in Ren and Stimpy?"
Soon, if things go my way, I will be adopting another dog from the Humane Society. I will name him Primus. It fits him.

| Brock Peters passes away |
[25 Aug 2005|09:00pm] |
Sorry that I haven't been around to respond to posts/comments/etc. or to post myself...I moved to Japan a month ago (to teach English on the JET Programme) and have had quite sparing internet access ever since. But I just heard this today via another community and thought I'd pass it on...Brock Peters, a renowned actor and the voice behind PoDW's pirate lord Bloth, passed away from pancreatic cancer earlier this week.

Sorry I've been such a slacker with keeping this place up...but I wanted to let you all know that hi-res copies of the episodes are available for download in BitTorrent format. There are 3 torrents--one for episodes 1-5, one for episodes 6-13, and one for episodes 14-21. The first torrent is 1.04 GB and the other two are around 1.5, bringing the episodes to a total of 4 GB. Please go here to get to the torrent files.
Or if you can't/don't want to download BitTorrent, I'm working on slowly uploading the episodes to another guy's server, here. (It's just taking me forever to do so, and it keeps timing out so I have to start from scratch 3 or 4 times sometimes.) I believe 1-6 and 14 are complete...7 might not be and 8 is definitely not. So you can grab them individually that way--each episode is between 170 and 200 MB in size.
Enjoy! :D

There used to be a long entry here and then... yikes sorry about that, Andorus. I'm new and I didn't read your commuity's info about where to get copies of the episodes. All I saw was your announcement on your main page of your PoDW page about you having copies of all 21 episodes. My screen name is escaping narrowly, and I will be trying to contact you at a more reasonable hour. Thank you.

It's been so long since I've seen this series, but I remember watching it, and loving it!
It came to my attention again after discussing with one of my classmates what I was going to be for "dress up as your favorite cartoon character" day. I put a lot of thought into it and discovered, there weren't a lot of characters I liked. I liked batman- cuz he was hot. But the girls never got me all excited... other than princess aurora from sleeping beauty, but I don't have the money or time to create a huge dress.
But I remembered Pirates of Dark Water and TULA! So now, I'm going to do a TULA costume. I'm very excited. This'll be just too much fun :3

| What do those curse words really mean? |

One thing that a lot of people remember PoDW for was its use of "colorful metaphors" (to quote the 4th Star Trek movie, heh). Some of those words are, "Noy jitat!" and "Chongo-longo!" and "Scut pango!"
Of all the terms you can remember (I unfortunately never got around to compiling a comprehensive list, though I'm really tempted to), which was your favorite?
And what do you think those words mean? Literal or creative translations--anything you want. :o)
